One Sea4D unit, mounted to suit the structure in any orientation: fixed or floating, offshore or at the quay. It monitors the safety zone, the vessels approaching the structure and the traffic passing outside the wind farm, for the traffic monitoring that consents call for. It is designed to detect objects in the water, such as marine mammals, a man overboard or hazards, and to measure wave height and period at the asset.
Sea4D on the structure gives four things an operator buys separately today: the sea state at the asset, the traffic approaching it, monitoring of the safety zone, and the record behind consents, warranty and charter claims. On a 15 MW turbine, each day of recovered output is worth about £12,500 to £16,000 at today’s strike price.
Safety zones of up to 500 m are declared around offshore renewable installations during construction, major maintenance and decommissioning, and oil and gas installations have statutory zones of their own. Sea4D monitors the vessels approaching and any infringement within its field of view, and units combine for full-zone coverage.
