The Problem Here

Operating at sea means reacting as conditions change.

Those conditions are least understood where it matters most, in the direct zone: the sea within 1,000 m of a vessel or Ocean infrastructure. Situational awareness is most critical here, and gains in efficiency, workability and safety depend on it.

Forecast rather than measured. Launch, recovery and small craft operations all wait on the call.
CLOSE-IN CONTACTS
Uncrewed surface craft have been used to attack warships and merchant ships. Inside the direct zone, the sea within 1,000 m of a vessel, navigation radar's sea clutter control can also suppress small, fast craft. Dedicated close-in sensors are fitted mainly to major warships, and most other vessels do not carry them.

UNCREWED SYSTEMS
No lookout on deck and no navigator to notice a wrong position. Perception must keep working when cameras are limited, and position integrity must be an aid the platform can carry.
The Answer

Inside the direct zone.

SOLAS allows the sea surface ahead of the bow to be hidden from the bridge for up to two ship lengths or 500 m. Sea4D monitors the sea within 1,000 m of the vessel. It is designed to give early warning of maritime threats, such as small craft approaching at speed, in support of the ship's own sensors.
